How to install industrial spark plugs?

Update:12 Dec, 2024

1. Preparation
Tool preparation:
Spark plug wrench, torque wrench (to ensure the spark plug is installed to the correct tightening force), cleaning cloth, lubricating oil (for spark plug threads), gloves (to prevent oil stains or hand injuries)
Check the spark plug:
Confirm that the selected industrial spark plugs model matches the equipment specifications (such as hexagonal size 22.2 mm, thread diameter 18 mm, etc.), check whether the spark plug electrode has cracks, dirt or damage, and ensure that it is in good working condition.
2. Clean the mounting seat
Cleaning the seat hole: Use compressed air or a brush to clean the spark plug mounting seat hole to remove dust, oil or other debris. Keeping the seat hole clean can ensure good sealing and connectivity.
Check the seat surface: Make sure the mounting seat surface is smooth and rust-free to support the normal installation of the spark plug.
3. Apply lubricant
Lightly apply lubricant (anti-corrosion lubricant or lubricating paste can be selected) on the spark plug thread. This can reduce thread friction, ensure smooth installation of the spark plug, and prevent thread damage caused during installation.
4. Manually install the spark plug
Align the spark plug with the mounting hole and gently rotate the spark plug manually until the threaded part is fully connected. Make sure the spark plug threads are aligned with the mounting hole and do not use excessive force.
5. Use a spark plug wrench
Use the spark plug wrench to gently rotate and screw the spark plug into the mounting socket. Make sure the threads rotate smoothly and do not use excessive force to avoid damaging the threads.
6. Tighten with a torque wrench
Set the torque value: Use a torque wrench to tighten the spark plug according to the specifications provided by the manufacturer. The torque value of the spark plug is usually between 15-30 Nm, refer to the product manual for specific values.
Avoid over-tightening or under-tightening: Be careful when tightening, over-tightening may damage the spark plug or threads, and over-tightening may cause leaks or loose connections.
7. Check the cable connection
Connect the spark plug cable to the top of the spark plug and ensure that the cable is firmly connected and in good contact. Check the cable for damage and make sure the connector is not loose.
8. Check after installation
Check the tightness: Make sure there is no looseness between the spark plug and the seat hole, and the seal is good.
Check the installation of the spark plug: Make sure all spark plugs are properly installed and tightened in place.
9. Start test
Start the equipment and observe whether the equipment is working properly. Check for problems such as difficulty starting, poor ignition or abnormal noise.
If the equipment does not run smoothly or cannot start, you may need to check whether the spark plug is installed correctly or replace it with a new one.
