How to determine whether the spark plug needs to be replaced?

1. Observe the appearance of the spark plug
Wear: Check whether the electrode part of the spark plug is severely worn, ablated or cracked. If the electrode surface is rough, there are black stripes or cracks in the ceramic part, it means that the spark plug is damaged and needs to be replaced
Color change: Under normal circumstances, the color of the spark plug should be brown or rusty. If the color is abnormal (such as black, white or oily), it may be too much carbon deposits or the wrong hot and cold type selection, and it needs to be replaced
Carbon deposits: If there are deposits on the top of the spark plug or between the electrodes, especially oily substances, it may be cylinder oil leakage; if it is gray deposits, it may be too much carbon deposits and need to be replaced

2. Check the electrode gap
The normal spark plug electrode gap should be between 0.6-1.2 mm. If the gap is too large or too small, it will affect the normal operation of the spark plug, resulting in a decrease in engine performance, which needs to be adjusted or replaced

3. Detect engine performance
Starting difficulties: If the engine is difficult to start when it is cold, or it cannot ignite normally, it may be that the spark plug electrode gap is too large or the carbon deposit is serious.
Weak acceleration: The engine lacks power when accelerating, which may be caused by carbon deposits or damage to the spark plug.
Jitter problem: The engine has intermittent or continuous jitters when idling, and makes abnormal "thumping" sounds, which may be caused by spark plug problems.
Increased fuel consumption: If fuel consumption increases significantly, it may be that the spark plug cannot provide stable ignition energy

4. Use professional tools to detect
Use a spark plug tester to measure the resistance and ionization intensity of the spark plug. If the resistance is too large or the ionization intensity is insufficient, it means that the spark plug needs to be replaced
